Dear Oak Members,

Happy New Year! No doubt it's going to be an exciting one, and it could be the most important year of our lives. It will be the best year of our lives yet if we get closer to God and love Him more. That is our main job description as human beings, and the main thing that will determine if we had a successful life or not, so let's resolve to excel this year at loving God!

I expect to stand at the end of this year and look back over great accomplishments. This can only happen by great trials, but with so many common people arising with an uncommon faith and resolve, we can expect great victories. To give assistance to these great saints, and great patriots, is the reason for The Oak Initiative.

Dear OAK Members,

One of the great questions in Christianity is concerning the sovereignty of God versus the free will of man. I believe in both. I think in His sovereignty, God gave a lot of freedom to men, even to the degree that we are told in Ps.115:16: “The heavens are the heavens of the Lord, but the earth He has given to the sons of men.” This is why He will not do many things on earth unless we pray. He knows what we need even before we pray, but we still have to ask for Him to move on the earth because He has delegated authority over the earth to men. I also think this is why the Holy Spirit is called “the Helper,” and not “the Doer.” He will help us, but He will not do what we’re called to do.

This is why the first thing we asked Oak members to do is to commit ten minutes a day to praying for your country. The Oak Initiative is about mobilizing the church to be the salt and light that we are called to be, but it is far better to have authority with God than with men. Having authority with God is much better than winning elections, stacking the Supreme Court with people who share our values, or anything else we could do on earth. He has given us the

Dear OAK Members,

There were two earthquakes this week. One was political and the other was physical. One is likely to have cost hundreds of thousands of lives, which is what it now seems the count may be in Haiti. The other one, the political earthquake, probably saved that many lives, and maybe even many more.

The Earthquake That Gave Life

The election of the Republican Scott Brown to the senate seat vacated by the death of Ted Kennedy, probably the most powerful liberal senator of our times from what is probably the most liberal state in the Union, was no doubt one of the biggest political earthquakes of our times. This will save many lives.

Before explaining that,     first we should all applaud the people of the great state of Massachusetts. The state that truly inspired the war for independence, and bore a huge amount of the cost of the war

Dear Oak Member,

I waited to write this week's letter after the President's State of the Union Address. More than the “State of the Union” this speech was really about the “State of the President's Agenda.” Even so, even if it is only from his perspective, understanding his perspective is valuable information. This was no doubt one of the most anticipated Presidential speeches in a long time, and it did not disappoint for both drama and illumination.

The State of the President

The nation seemed most interested in whether the President got the message from the

Dear Oak Members,

The following is an open letter to President Obama from Pat Boone, the well known actor, recording artist, and Christian activist.

The President Without a Country
- By Pat Boone
"We're no longer a Christian nation." - President Barack Obama, June 2007

"America has been arrogant." - President Barack Obama

"After 9/11, America didn't always live up to her ideals." - President Barack Obama

"You might say that America is a Muslim nation." - President Barack Obama, Egypt 2009

Thinking about these and other statements made by the man who wears the title of president, I keep wondering what country he believes he's president of.

In one of my very favorite stories, Edward Everett Hale's "The Man without a Country," a young Army lieutenant named Philip Nolan stands condemned for treason

Dear Member,

Last week we hosted our first gathering just for Oak Initiative members. It was an extraordinary time and I think exceeded all of our expectations. If you were not able to be there, it was all recorded and the DVD's and CD's will soon be available on our website. There are a number of these teachings that would be excellent to show to your gathering or Chapter, and should stimulate not only interchange but action.

From our perspective the most encouraging thing was to see the quality of people being drawn to The Oak. We have a national advertising campaign planned that will likely swell our ranks, but we are more concerned that The Oak grows strong, not just big. This will always be dependent on the quality of people in The Oak. We know that the ones who are gathering now, without the advertising, are doing it out of a sense of mission. As we get to know those who are gathering in The Oak Initiative we have

Dear Oak Member

I waited to write this letter after the President's Healthcare Summit was over. Both sides did well at expressing their positions on the issue, and both sides made some good points. However, neither side addressed one of the main reasons why the nation has risen in protest of this billgovernment incompetence to manage anything at this time, much less something as complicated as healthcare. There are other important issues, but this is a big one that it does not seem either side is seeing.

To trust the government to run something as complicated as our healthcare system would no doubt result in one of biggest tragedies of our times, and could quickly begin to cause more suffering and death than any war we have fought as a nation. That is no exaggeration. That is what is at stake in this debate. Do we want to trust our healthcare system to the ones who could not even run Cash for Clunkers?

Nevertheless, we do need healthcare reform. As was covered at this summit, tort reform, and eliminating the present fraud in the system would lower healthcare costs by at least

Dear Oak Member,

The Oak Initiative was born out of a gathering of about 300 leaders from across the spectrum of the body of Christ. They came together to discuss and form a plan for addressing the great crises of our times. Addressing these crises includes having the vision and strategy to help prepare the body of Christ to not only survive, but to prevail through these crises, while being the light in the darkness that we are called to be.

Being a light in darkness includes having answers for the world's ultimate problems. Among the Christian leaders who gathered at our first summit, there was a seeming universal agreement that the great crises of our times are now almost all beyond human remedy. Our answers therefore must all begin with turning to God, and in the case of our nation, turning back to God. We

Dear Oak Member,

We have got our work cut out for us more than ever before with the passage of this healthcare legislation. We will be dissecting it for weeks to come for every implication and impact it will have on us and America. No legislation in history has divided the nation as much as the recent Healthcare Reform Bill. Why? No bill in American history will so fundamentally impact our future.

There may not be anyone in America who does not think that healthcare reform is needed, but is what we are getting what we need? This debate is far from over. As Christians, we are called to be “the light of the world,” which means that Christians should have illumination on the important issues of our times, even in the midst of such darkness and confusion. As Christians, we have a responsibility to have understanding, and if we are going to be the salt of the earth that we are called to be, we also must be engaged in the great issues of our times. This is basic to The Oak Initiative, and this

Dear Oak Member,

If you enjoy the intensity of living in perpetual crisis, we are certainly living in a “target rich environment” now. Hardly a week goes by in which something does not arise that threatens our way of life, or our life itself. When it did not seem that it could get much worse after the passage of the Healthcare Reform Bill that threatens many of our basic freedoms as Americans, a major crisis arises in our foreign policy that has the potential to threaten world peace. That is the crisis in relations between America and one of our most loyal, and strategically important allies—Israel.

The unprecedented and disgracefully bad treatment of the Israeli Prime Minister by our President in the White House highlights just how bad these relations have gotten. The President not only made unconscionable demands of Israel to start a new peace process, but actually left the Prime Minister and his aides alone to work on the demanded concessions while he went upstairs to eat
