Dear Fellow Member of the OAK Initiative,

The main question that is being asked by our members is how to get started. That is most encouraging because that means you are already doers and action oriented. To begin with, we do not want to just convey to our members what to do, but as much as we can, we want to explain why we are doing things. We also want to invite your feedback. For you to have joined something so new, and as yet largely undefined, means that you have a special kind of faith, and that you should have some input into the building and developing strategy of OAK, so we are really interested in your feedback.

As explained in the first letter you received, our symbol is the oak tree because a healthy oak tree has a root system that is just as expansive below the ground as its branches are above the ground. Some roots are necessary before even the first shoot of a new oak tree can break out. We know that you already have at least some roots for you to have joined OAK. Now we all want to have a resolve to continue growing our root system so that it can support more and more branches.

So our strategy is two-fold—growing both roots and branches.

The roots represent our knowledge of the Lord, His ways, His calling on our life, and His perspective on our world. We are therefore asking every member of OAK to be committed to spend at least 10 minutes a day in prayer, and 10 minutes a day in personal devotions, or study. This may not sound like much, and it isn’t, but consistency is crucial for a healthy Christian life,
