NBCI’s 34,000 Black Churches Stand Behind Kim Davis’ Conviction in God’s Authority
Supreme Court’s Ruling Violates Religious Liberty

Press Release: September 3, 2015

Washington, DC – The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI), a faith-based coalition of 34,000 churches comprised of 15 denominations and 15.7 million African Americans, is speaking out in strong support of Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis’ steadfast commitment to upholding traditional marriage. Citing “God’s authority,” Davis, elected by the citizens of Kentucky, continues to refuse issuing marriage licenses to two same-sex couples—bucking a U.S. Supreme County action on Monday refusing Davis’ case and leaving her with no legal grounds to defend and uphold her religious beliefs.

“We are not going to sit back and allow the government to prosecute our sister in Christ Kim Davis,” said NCBI President Reverend Anthony Evans. “I have asked my churches to pray on one accord to overcome this evil in the sight of God. We must stand united for the sake of the Gospel and uphold Scripture as the ultimate law of the land for those Christians whose beliefs are in the line of fire.”

NBCI remains firm in its belief that no one in the body of Christ should have to violate their faith in order to carry out their job duties. The government cannot compel its citizens to violate their faith, and traditional marriage is the only union that can be sanctioned by God’s law. NBCI member churches and their congregants will stand with Kim Davis, and urges federal and state officials to respect freedom of religion and not hold Davis in contempt.

Note the flag at the top of the mast that reads, "Appeal to Heaven."  This was our first national flag, and yet now prayer is banned in most public places.
